We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Adam Powers, the visionary writer, director, and producer behind an exciting new proof-of-concept project called "The Return." Adam shared with us the captivating story that follows a young Black girl from Seattle who embarks on a transformative journey to Ghana. This narrative explores themes of modernization, education, and global citizenship, all set against a backdrop of cultural richness and technological advancement. The plot takes a thrilling turn when a solar flare devastates Earth, propelling the protagonist and her community into a mission to rebuild towards a solar-punk future. The first 15 minutes of this series will be shot at the innovative M5 Creative Studio.
Adam elaborated on how the production of "The Return" will be uniquely facilitated by the state-of-the-art M5 Creative Studio. This facility, located in the heart of Seattle near the Space Needle and the Seattle Center, is designed specifically for filmmakers and creatives. It acts as a WeWork for the creative industry, housing various organizations and film collaborations. The studio's centerpiece is its LED wall stage and production facility, which allows for seamless integration of virtual screen production. This means that the entire film can be shot, edited, and scored within the same building, drastically reducing production time and costs.
In addition to the LED wall, the M5 Creative Studio boasts a commercial kitchen to cater to actors and crew, further enhancing the in-house production experience. By utilizing these comprehensive facilities, DAO Studios can ensure that every aspect of the film's production is handled efficiently and professionally.
DAO Studios is also venturing into merchandise production, with Black Fox Studios, its sister company, taking the lead. Located within M5 Creative Studios, Black Fox Studios will produce a variety of products, including augmented reality T-shirts, movie posters, comic books, light novels, and 3D printed toys. Using 3D printing, laser cutting, and digital printing technologies, they will create unique merchandise that complements the stories and films produced by DAO Studios.

Furthermore, DAO Studios will host a greenlight pitch competition, inviting creatives to submit their project ideas. The best concepts, as voted by the community, will receive micro-grants to cover production costs. These grants will support local businesses within M5 Studios, like Black Fox Studios, to develop storyboards, music, compositions, and merchandise. This initiative aims to foster a vibrant creative community and provide a platform for emerging talents to bring their visions to life.
Adam Powers and DAO Studios are setting a new standard in film production and distribution with "The Return." By leveraging the cutting-edge facilities at M5 Creative Studio and fostering community engagement, they are not only creating compelling content but also revolutionizing the way films are produced and experienced. We eagerly anticipate the release of "The Return" and look forward to seeing the impact of this innovative approach on the creative industry.
